Day 1 | Meet at the airport at 7.15 am for Air Malta flight to Munich departing at 9.25 am. On arrival, transfer to Munich for the famous Christmas market in the main city square, the Marienplatz. The market spills onto the nearby streets creating a unique atmosphere bringing together flavours of many regions: nativity cribs and wood carvings from Oberammergau, gingerbread from Nuremberg and glassware from the Bavarian Forest. We will have the opportunity to savour some of the irresistible delicacies and drink the famous beer. Transfer to hotel, with a stop for dinner along the way.
Day 2 | Full-day optional excursion to Bavaria’s national park of Berchtesgaden. Enroute we stop at a lake called Königssee, the largest of this alpine paradise. We then drive on to the town of Berchtesgaden, where the decorated houses and market stalls create a unique ambiance for the traditional ‘Christkindlmarkt’. A live nativity scene, horse-drawn carriage rides, local wood crafts and Christmas carol singers create an atmosphere that fills everyone with joy and peace. Next stop will be at the Alpine town of Bad Reichenhall, where an attractive Christmas market set up on the town hall square offers a wide variety of high quality products from the region. Hot mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and other typical specialties are among the culinary highlights here. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 | Full-day optional excursion to the world’s oldest advent market located in Salzburg. In the fairylit, cobble-stoned streets of this musical city, one captures the essentials of old time Christmas magic. We will be greeted by the delectable aromas of mulled wine, hot roasted chestnuts, freshly baked apples and toasted almonds. Gingerbread hearts, nativity figures, Christmas tree ornaments, toys and snug knitwear make this famous Christmas market irresistible. No dinner will be served at the hotel so that we are able to enjoy the traditional delicacies.
Day 4 | Full-day optional excursion to St Johann im Pongau for shopping and lunch. Drive to the lake-side town of Zell am See where the Christmas market is held in the old town centre. Beautifully carved woodwork and traditional wooden toys adorn the market stalls. Regional culinary specialities such as the advent sausage and the hearty ‘fassl’ stew can whet any appetite. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 5 | Full-day optional excursion to the Salzkammergut region better known as the Lake District of Austria. Our first stop is St. Gilgen, on the shores of Wolfgangsee, one of the largest lakes of this region. Shining from afar and guiding the way to the advent market is an 11-metre high candle in St. Gilgen. The lovingly decorated stalls painted in baroque style are worth a visit. From here we shall proceed to St. Wolfgang’s Christmas market where candles and torches lend a charmed atmosphere. Our last stop will be in Mondsee where a Christmas market is held in front of the famous basilica. No dinner will be served at the hotel so we can enjoy the culinary delicacies in Mondsee.
Day 6 | Breakfast and late morning departure to Munich for flight back to Malta departing at 4.35pm and landing at approximately 6.50pm.
