Join us for a getaway in the city of thermal baths and ruin bars, one of the most beautiful and budget-friendly capital cities in Europe. Budapest is a paradise for those who like exploring on foot. A city rich with dramatic history and flamboyant architecture, Budapest will promise a plethora of activities and things to see, ensuring an exceptional stay to visitors of all ages.

Programme

Friday 3 June  |  Meet at the airport at 5am for Air Malta flight to Vienna departing at 7.10am.  On arrival, transfer to our 4* hotel in central Budapest for check in, followed by an orientation tour.  Free time to explore the area.

Saturday 4 June  |  Breakfast followed by a full day guided sightseeing tour in Budapest, visiting sights such as Heroes’ Square, the Parliament Building, Vörösmarty Square, and the Castle District. Enjoy entrances to Budapest’s Cathedral, St. Stephen Basilica and the spiritual heart of Hungary. Continue on to Fisherman’s Bastion, a UNESCO site, an impressive fortress and a truly stunning piece of architecture.  Free time for lunch.

After lunch, proceed to Gellert Bath and visit the spa side of Budapest. These baths originated in the 13th century and have been in use as medicinal springs ever since. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the waters before heading back to your hotel to end the tour.  Evening at leisure.

Sunday 5 June  |  Breakfast followed by transfer to the north of Budapest, stopping first at the Open Air Museum at Szentendre, a vast outdoor ethnological museum depicting the historical life of Hungary’s people, with farmhouses, churches and mills from past centuries. From there keep heading north to Visegrad, a castle town overlooking a bend in the Danube river. Enjoy entrance to the Citadel that sits atop a hill with a view over the river.  Free time for lunch.

After lunch continue along the Danube to one of the great sights of Hungary and the largest church in the country, the Esztergom Cathedral, that towers over the landscape and can be seen for kilometers in the surrounding countryside.  Return to Budapest.  Evening at leisure.

Monday 6 June  |  Full day excursion to Lake Balaton, the largest lake in central Europe.  Before heading out onto the water, visit Tihany Abbey, built on the shores of the lake.

Free time for lunch.

Once finished with lunch, climb aboard a boat for a cruise on the lake to enjoy the Abbey and the Hungarian countryside from the water. Back on land, enjoy a brief city tour of the picturesque resort town of Balatonfüred, before heading back to the capital.

Tuesday 7 June  |  Breakfast followed by a day at leisure to explore this vibrant city with its rich history, beautiful parks and buildings, bustling food halls, cool underground bars and centuries-old thermal baths.  Witness the bullet holes and shrapnel pockmarks on buildings from WWII and the 1956 uprising.  Stop by the poignant Shoes on the Danube Memorial.   Try a taste of goulash, an Eastern European beef stew often served in a bread bowl.  Soak in one of the many thermal baths.  Stroll through the city park, filled with little cafes, duck ponds, castles and a zoo.  End your day by visiting the infamous ruin bars and try out some of the local Palinka.

Wednesday 8 June  |  Early breakfast followed by check out and transfer to Vienna for our Air Malta flight departing at 10.40am.  Arrival in Malta at 12.55pm.
