11th August: The Heart of the Fjords (B)
With its ideal location right in the heart of the Fjord Norway region, between the Hardangerfjord and the Sognefjord, Bergen is the perfect starting point for our adventure! Here we are really close to the spectacular fjords and the majestic mountain landscape, to explore the wet elements with kayaking, and for glacier hiking. Of course we will experience all of this!!
We will start our morning with a walking tour all around this urban town. Packed with charm, houses clinging to the hillsides, narrow cobblestone alleys and old wooden buildings standing tall in different colours. We will walk through the lively fish market, one of Norway’s most visited outdoor markets, and also offers fresh fruit, vegetables, handicrafts and souvenirs. We will also discover the picturesque wharf and old Hanseatic quarters of Bryggen. Just in time for lunch we will allow some free time for everyone to grab a snack or to continue exploring the historic centre.
This afternoon we will visit Bergen’s famous sightseeing point, Mount Floyen. We will take the funicular right to the very top where we can enjoy breathtaking views of the beautiful scenery beneath us. Once up here, we will have the opportunity to take a peaceful trail in the mountain. We will then head back to the starting point and take the funicular back down to the city centre.
This evening, join us for an evening out in Bergen. One of the cool things about this colourful town is that you do not need to visit a gallery to experience great art. All over the city, you can admire dense collections of spray-painted glory thanks to world-class street artists from near and far. Skostredet, perhaps Bergen’s most charming shopping street, is an ideal starting point for a street art safari. We will end our evening with a drink in one of the pubs in the city centre.

Sognefjord, is Norway’s longest and deepest fjord. With nature looking just like a painting, this is one of the places you need to see, feel and smell for yourself! In fact, UNESCO claims that the landscape here is among the most scenically outstanding anywhere! Today we will drive down the Aurlandsfjellet and Sognefjellet National Scenic Routes, all around the fjord. You will be completely taken aback back the turquoise water, and as we drive further in the views will keep getting better and better. To make the most of this we will make several stops along the way including the spectacular Stegastein viewing platform with views 650m above the fjord, which will surely take our breath away. In fact, all we need to do here is just stop, take a deep breathe and realise that we’re at one of the most beautiful places in the world. We will pass by glowing blue glaciers, visit Arland and proceed towards the mountain village of Geilo where we will be spending our next 2 nights. For the next 2 nights we will overnight in Geilo. Accommodation: Ustedalen Hotel or similar.

15th August: When in Norway, do as the Norwegian’s do (B)
Our adventure will continue! To start off with, we will head to another fjord, Nærøyfjord, but this time we will kayak right
through it!!!! Nærøyfjord is one of the world’s most beautiful and dramatic fjords, so much so that it made its spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Kayaking along snow-capped mountains, waterfalls and idyllic farms clinging to the mountainsides, will surely give us an adventure to remember. The route we will be following is rated as easy. After a briefing session by our guide, we will be provided with all the equipment and then we will jump into our double kayaks to start paddling. We will paddle calmly on the narrow UNESCO fjord surrounded by mighty mountains and impressive waterfalls. While paddling, you get a beautiful view of small mountain farms, and if you are lucky you can see goats relaxing by the fjord and seals playing on the rocks.
After a morning on the fjord, it’s time to head to Flam to experience what Lonely Planet refer to as the best train journey in the world. This is a true bucket list experience as it is one of the most spectacular train journeys that offers a panoramic view of some of the wildest and most magnificent nature in the Norwegian fjord landscape. Over the course of one hour, the train will take us from sea level at the Aurlandsfjord in Flåm, to Myrdal mountain station, situated 867 metres above sea level.
On our way we will enjoy the changing scenery of the Flåm Valley. Before ascending into the more impassable sections of the valley, the train will run through agricultural landscapes, the old Flåm village centre and the old church. The sparkling blue river follows the railway for large parts of the trip, and we will pass small farms in locations you’d think no one could live. Once back in Flam, we will enjoy some free time before we head back to our hotel in Voss.
16th August: Cruising it (B)
After breakfast, we will check out of our hotel. We will start our day with a morning stroll at Hanguren Panorama. The trail is just 800m and offers beautiful panoramic view of Voss’ mountains, lakes, and part of the town centre. We will then depart to Ulvik to catch a ferry and cruise along Hardanger Fjord to Norheimsund. And if the Sognefjord is the king of the fjords of Western Norway, the Hardangerfjord is surely the queen. Upon our arrival we will transfer to Bergen for our last night in this splendid country. We will overnight in Bergen. Accommodation: Quality Hotel Edvard Grieg or similar.
17th August: Back home (B)
