27 February – Arrival day
Meet your tour guide Rene at Malta International Airport at 4.15am sharp for flight departing to Paris at 6.15am. After a short stop, we fly out to Keflavik Airport, Iceland, landing at 3.45pm. We then drive to our first hotel in the capital city of Reykjavik.
Time for check in and dinner, followed by a night walk around the capital city.
28 February – Reykjavik and Hraunsnef
Our day will start off with a city tour to explore the colourful buildings including Hallgrimskirkja church, followed by lunch at Perlan museum with time to enjoy the best viewpoint in Reykjavik. We then start the drive towards Hraunsnef, where we will spend the next two nights. On the road we will visit Grabrok, a 3000 year old dormant volcano. Our hotel in Hraunsnef is set in a beautiful location with spectacular views, outdoor hot tubs, and ample opportunities to view the northern lights.
1 March – Grundarfjordur and Hraunsnef
We start early for our drive to Grundarfjordur, a stunning and famous rock formation in the village of Snaefellsnes. En-route we will have various stops in the snow covered mountains and on the beach side with the possibility to spot sea lions and whales. Lunch in Snaefellsnes. We drive back to Hraunsnef Hotel for dinner and hopefully more northern lights while enjoying the outside hot tubs.
2 March – Geysir and Gullfoss
Today we drive from Hraunsnef to Geysir. Free time for lunch at Geysir, followed by a stop at Gullfoss, the biggest waterfall in Europe. Next stop will be at the geothermal active valley of Haukadalur. We sleepover in Gullfoss just a few minutes away from the waterfall, with another chance to see the northern lights close to Gullfoss waterfall.
3 March – Vik – Seljalandsfoss- Skogafoss
We depart early for our drive from Gullfoss to Vik. En route we shall stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skogafoss waterfall, followed by Vik beach with time to enjoy its amazing views. We will sleep for two nights in the Vik hills.
4 March – Svínafellsjökull Glacier – Diamond beach – Glacier lagoon
Today will be one of the most exciting days of the trip, starting off early with a drive to Svínafellsjökull Glacier for a short but stunning trek. Next stop will be at the spectacular Diamond Beach and Glacier Lagoon. After a full day out, we drive back to Vik for the night.
5 March – Vik – Keflavik – Blue Lagoon
Weather permitting, we shall walk to the famous 1973 US Navy C-117D plane crash which is located on one of the beaches in Vik. Later we drive from Vik to the Blue Lagoon in Keflavik, with free time to enjoy the geothermal spa. Overnight at Keflavik airport area.
6 March – Flights back home
At 5.30am we drive to Keflavik airport for our 7.40am flight to London Heathrow. We have an 8 hour stop-over in London, so anyone who is after a day trip may leave the bags at the airport hold and visit London. We later fly from London at 8.30pm and should arrive in Malta by 00.40am.
