8th July: Depart Malta.
Meet at Malta International Airport for our flight to Munich and then to Tbilisi. According to the current flight schedule we are expected to depart at 15.40hrs, transit in Munich for 4 hours, arriving in Tbilisi the next day at 4.05am.
9th July: Ananuri Fortress – Sour Waters of Vedza – Truso Valley
We will enjoy a ride along the legendary Georgian Military Highway. The first interesting point is the sight of the Jvari Monastery on the hill overlooking the ancient capital of Georgia, Mtsketa, on the right, and the spectacular Svetitskhoveli Cathedral on the left. Soon after, the emerald Zhinvali Reservoirs will be visible, highlighted by the well preserved architectural structure – the Ananuri Castle, at a distance. This was the former defensive fortress of the feudal area. From here, we will continue to the fortress by foot to take in the spectacular views and to explore the fairy-tale castle. Enjoy the breathtaking views!
A full day out calls for a nice warm meal. We will head to a rural village for lunch (extra) and after we recharge, we will head to Truso Valley. Here we will enjoy a pleasant hike in a luscious valley surrounded by mountains, springs, a mineral lake, ancient towers and abandoned settlements. Later we will make our way to a little alpine village, Kazbegi, where we will spend our next 2 nights. Kazbegi is a valley town in the Caucasus Mountains, just 10km south of the border with Russia. Accommodation for the next 2 nights: 4* Sno Inn Kazbegi or similar.
10th July: Gergeti – Gveleti waterfall – Stepantsminda (B=breakfast)
This part of the world is truly stunning, and one way to appreciate the scale of the mountains is to explore it on foot. We will follow a stunning trail to Gergeti walking through fields with grazing cattle past a flowing stream. As the clouds lift, we can observe the towering snowy cone of Mont Kazbek as a backdrop, green hills on one side and the water spring on another. We will then take a short drive through the stunning Dariali Gorge to continue our leisurely hike to the mystical Gveleti waterfall, which is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Georgia. The path to the waterfall starts from the semi-abandoned village Gveleti, and it will follow the beautiful Gorge along a mountain river. We will overnight again in our hotel in Kazbegi.
11th July: Mt Elias– Gudauri balcony – Jvari Monastery – Tbilisi city tour – Wine Tasting (B)
Today we will take a leisurely morning walk on Mt Elias, which is the perfect place to feel the medieval spirit of Georgia. From here we will move on to the famous Friendship monument which offers amazing views of the surrounding mountainous landscapes. And as today is all about spectacular landscape, our next stop will be the Jvari Monastery, a perfect symbol of the Georgian architecture.
Later in the afternoon we will head back to Tbilisi where we will get lost in this charming city. The guided city tour will give us a glimpse of the city and we’ll visit the highlights it has to offer. But no visit to Georgia is complete unless you discover Georgia’s finest wines. We invite you for a local wine tasting experience at one of Georgia’s most exquisite chateaus and together we will raise a glass for a healthy and prosperous life. 12th July: Unwind in Tbilisi (B)
Tbilisi is the beating heart of the South Caucasus. With its eternal charm, picturesque architecture, an ever lively arts and cultural scene, and the welcoming Georgian lifestyle, it presents a whole new 21st century dimension (Lonely Planet). Cafes, galleries, small shops, funky bars, and parks can be found everywhere. As we stroll around the market, and get lost in the cute little alleys, we will admire intricately carved wooden balconies, crumbling buildings and artists selling their paintings. Small traders clog up the pavements selling warm potato breads, khinkali (steamed dumplings), churchkhela (Georgian candy), cheese and nuts, which are impossible to resist. The nightlife is great so do get ready for a Georgian night out!!! Will save some energy this time 😀
Today one also has the opportunity to visit the Sulphur Baths in Abanotubani fed by natural hot springs. We can wonder around the baths, our guide will explain the health benefits, and then one can opt to soak, scrub and have a thermal bath or traditional massage beneath the domed roofs. This place, will surely make us feel toasty on a cold day!!
13th July: Uplistsikhe cave town – Prometheus Cave – Kutaisi (B)
Today we will travel to unbelievably beautiful parts of Georgia. We will start off by traveling back in time as we wander the Uplistsikhe cave town. Uplistsikhe dates back as far as the Iron age and it stood directly on the Silk Road. Later, we will move on to Prometheus Cave. The cave has a depth of 1000m and it is quite high and wide. In fact, it is one of the largest in the world. It provides visitors with remarkable formations of stalactites, stalagmites, cave pearls, curtains and underground rivers.
The cluster of 6 caves offer unique shapes of petrified flowstones. After a full day of discovery, we will head to Kutaisi, the cradle of ancient civilisation and one of Europe’s 16 oldest cities. Kutaisi offers a totally different vibe to Tbilisi. It’s vibrant Green Bazaar, numerous attractions, and friendly locals, makes it the perfect place to relax and unwind. 14th July: Martvili Canyon – Okatse Canyon – Kinchka waterfall – Kutaisi (B)
We will continue to experience the wild nature of Georgia as we explore a fairy-tale canyon and a centuries old cave. Martvili canyon is a spectacle of coves and emerald-green flowing river through
the gorge. It is a rare nature spot that shouldn’t be missed and to make the most of it we will take a short boat ride between the high rocks. Following this we will go to Gordi village and start our pleasant hike to Okatse canyon. We will enjoy breathtaking nature as we walk on the suspension bridge along the gorge. Shortly after we will reach one of the most rewarding points in Georgia…the hanging balcony right at the very end. The landscape here is impressive and the experience is exhilarating and pretty amazing! And our final stop will be to Kinchka waterfall, which is one of the tallest waterfalls in the country. We will reach it by a footpath suspended along the edge of the canyon offering amazing views to the canyon and its surroundings. This place will surely leave us with unforgettable memories.
15th July: Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park – Tbilisi (B)
After breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and take a scenic route to Borjomi-Kharaguli National Park. This nature reserve will allow us to experience the stunning variety of flora and fauna
including alpine meadows and ancient woodlands. But that’s not all! We offer you a rafting route on Mtkvari river, a simple and beautiful route for all which runs in the National Park. This is a perfect way to experience water exploration and will surely be a good bonding experience between us. Following this we will take a walk around the park and unwind in the charming town of Borjomi. Finally, we return back to Tbilisi to enjoy our last night in this splendid city! 16th July: Home
Our adventure has come to an end! We will have an early wake up call and head to the airport for our flight back home, which is expected to depart at 05.05am. We ultimately hope to Experience all of this with you.
