Meet at Malta International Airport for our first flight to Lisbon and then from here to Funchal, Madeira. (Flights will have to be purchased separately).
We will be staying in a 4* recently opened hotel in the city of Funchal. Situated in the south of Madeira Island, on the sunniest coast, set in the middle of the banana plantations and the wonderful gardens where flowers bloom all year round. Funchal is a thriving and relaxed city during the day with a vibrant and eclectic nightlife.
19 JUNE | FULL DAY WALK FANAL + SUNSET CATAMARAN TRIP (B, PL) *
The trail, which take us through some of the most picturesque landscapes on the island, begins at the enchanting Fanal Forest, home to ancient laurel trees and an array of endemic flora and fauna. Stunning views of the rugged coastline and the surrounding mountains await us. At Paul da Serra plateau, a vast expanse of rolling hills and open meadows, we can take in panoramic views of the island’s interior, including the majestic Pico Ruivo, Madeira’s highest peak. The highlight of the hike is the Assobiadores viewpoint, which offers breathtaking views of the lush green valleys and mountains of Madeira. This is an excellent spot to take a break, catch your breath, and snap some photos of the stunning scenery.
In the evening, we will board a catamaran to enjoy a unique setting with warm colours during the sunset. During this 3-hour trip there is a strong possibility of observing whales and dolphins, and weather and sea conditions permitting, the chance for a swim in the warm waters of the Madeiran coastline.
20 JUNE | FULL DAY WALK PICOS (B, PL) *
This hike will take us through stunning mountainous terrain, with breathtaking views of the island’s rugged coastline, verdant valleys, and rocky peaks. The path is well-maintained and easy to follow, but can be quite steep and rocky in places, requiring a moderate level of fitness and agility.
Along the way, we will pass by several interesting landmarks, including the curious rock formations of Penha d’Águia, the deep valley of Vale da Lapa, and the remote mountain village of Curral das Freiras.
The highlight of the hike is undoubtedly the ascent to Pico Ruivo, the island’s highest peak at 1862 meters. The final stretch of the trail involves a steep climb up a series of stone steps, but the reward is well worth the effort. From the summit, we will enjoy a 360-degree view of Madeira, with sweeping vistas of the island’s lush valleys, dramatic cliffs, and azure coastline.
21 JUNE | FULL DAY WEST OF MADEIRA ISLAND TOUR (B) *
We will kick off our excursion in the enchanting fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, celebrated for its vibrant houses, scenic harbour, and the renowned Winston Churchill viewpoint. We will then make a stop at the Cabo Girão viewpoint, at 580 metres above sea-level, it is Europe’s highest skywalk, treating us to awe-inspiring vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and the neighbouring coastline.
In Ribeira Brava, a delightful historic centre awaits exploration. The Encumeada mountain pass will gift us with breathtaking views of both the north and south coasts of the island. Our route will then lead us to Paúl da Serra, a plateau offering sweeping panoramas of the island’s mountains and valleys. Continuing our journey, we’ll reach the coastal town of Porto Moniz, renowned for its natural swimming pools created by volcanic rocks. Here, we can take a refreshing swim and unwind in the crystal-clear waters. Our exploration will extend to the charming town of Seixal, where a black sand beach invites discovery. Finally, we will conclude our adventure in the town of São Vicente, delving into its delightful historic centre.
22 JUNE | FULL DAY WALK KING’S LEVADA + SUNSET JEEP TOUR (B & PL) *
This trail offers hikers breathtaking views and natural wonders to discover. A beautiful hiking trail situated in the lush valley of São Jorge that will take us to the lush full places found on the island. The trail is relatively easy to walk, and along the way we will have the chance to admire the various plants and flowers. Towards the end of the hike, we will come across the beautiful Ribeiro Bonito Waterfall. This waterfall is a stunning sight, and we will also have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the natural pool at the base of the waterfall.
In the evening, we will embark on an exhilarating 3-hour Sunset Jeep Tour. Get ready for an adventurous journey along the stunning southwest coast, weaving through Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol, tackling off-road trails to Paul da Serra, and venturing into the captivating locales of Calheta and Paul do Mar. Brace yourself for a unique and unforgettable experience as we soak in the beauty of the landscape during this thrilling sunset escapade.
23 JUNE | KAYAKING IN MADEIRA + HALF DAY NUN’S VALLEY TOUR (B)*
Kayaking in Madeira is a fantastic way to explore the stunning coastline and crystal-clear waters of this beautiful island. The island’s rugged coastline offers plenty of opportunities for exploring hidden coves, sea caves, and rocky cliffs, while the calm waters of the island’s bays and lagoons are perfect for a leisurely paddle. With its warm climate, diverse marine life, and breathtaking scenery, kayaking in Madeira is an experience not to be missed.
The Nun’s Valley is a secluded beauty, nestled in the heart of Madeira Island. We will start our journey at Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint, for an awe-inspiring panoramic view of Funchal city. From this elevated viewpoint, one can see the entire city and harbour, as well as the surrounding mountains and valleys. A perfect opportunity to capture some truly memorable photos. Next, we will venture to Eira do Serrado viewpoint, offering a bird’s eye view of Nuns Valley. Brace yourself for breathtaking views of the valley’s rugged cliffs and lush green vegetation. This spot is renowned for its stunning vistas, making it one of Madeira’s Island most sought-after destinations. Finally, we will make our descent to Nuns Valley, a small village nestled in a natural amphitheatre in the heart of the island and built on the crater of an extinct volcano. Named after the nuns who sought refuge here in the 16th century from French pirates, it exudes a unique charm. The picturesque houses and narrow streets showcase the traditional Madeira architecture.
We will have some free time to explore the village, sample the local cuisine, and stroll through the breathtaking countryside.
24 JUNE | FULL DAY WALK RABAÇAL (B & PL) *
The walk to 25 Fontes in Rabaçal is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Madeira.
Today we will embark on a mesmerizing journey through nature with this trail, offering a serene escape and culminating in the breathtaking 25 Fontes waterfall—a reward well worth the adventure. The path meanders through a lush forest, with a diverse array of trees, plants, and wildlife.
Along the route, we will encounter small streams and waterfalls, providing refreshing breaks from the warm, humid air. The pinnacle of this adventure is the majestic 25 Fontes, translating to “25 springs” in Portuguese. Positioned at the trail’s end, this waterfall is a spectacle to behold, gracefully descending a cliff face where itdivides into 25 streams, converging into a natural pool at the waterfall’s base. If you are bold, a refreshing dip in the pool awaits, but brace yourself—it’s chilly enough to deliver a delightful shock. Get ready for an unforgettable journey where nature’s wonders unfold at every step.
25 JUNE | FLIGHT BACK TO MALTA (PB) *
Our adventure comes to an end here! An early morning transfer will drop us
off at the airport for our flight back home.
