Friday 25 October | Meet your tour-leader at the airport at 3 am for our Aegean Airlines flight to Thessaloniki departing at 5.15 am. After arrival, transfer to a city hotel for early breakfast. After enough time, we then drive north-east towards the historical city of Drama. Enjoy a sightseeing visit of the city centre before we have lunch (incl) in a traditional restaurant, followed by room allocation at our 4-star hotel. You may wish to enjoy the evening by exploring the city heart or the Agia Varvara Park (taxi – extra), an idyllic location in the city centre with fountains, small lakes and waterfalls, tavernas, an outdoor theatre and leisure venues. There you will see the traditional watermills and the multi-storey tobacco warehouses.

Saturday 26 October | After breakfast join our optional day excursion as we visit the Cave of Alistrati (entr extra – circa Eur8 pp) and the Aggitis Gorge. Alistrati is considered one of the largest and most beautiful caves not only of Greece but of Europe. After enough free time for lunch (included), we continue our tour with a visit to a local winery before returning to our hotel.

Sunday 27 October | Following breakfast, join our optional excursion to the archaeological site of Filippoi (entr extra – circa Eur15 pp), with its layout and architecture as a colony resembling a “small Rome”. The remains of its churches are exceptional testimony to the early establishment and growth of Christianity. After enough time we then head to the city of Kavala considered one of the most attractive of Greece’s largest cities, rising like an amphitheatre from the beautiful harbour up to a huge Byzantine fortress. Built on the ancient city of Neopolis, the spacious squares and contemporary buildings on the west side of the city form a pleasant contrast to the traditional old houses, tiny gardens and flagged alleyways of the eastern side. The harbour is particularly picturesque with its countless brightly coloured fishing boats moored along the waterfront. We return to our hotel in Drama in the evening.

Monday 28 October | After breakfast and room check-out we shall return to Thessaloniki and offer you a free sightseeing tour including the most important landmarks. We shall have free time for dinner (not incl) in one of the numerous restaurants in the centre followed by evening transfer to the airport. Flight to Malta departs at 10 pm and arrival in Malta is expected at 10.35 pm.
