Friday | Meet at the airport at 03.30 am for our Air Malta flight to Catania departing at 05.40 am. Upon arrival we visit the quaint island of Ortigia, with its cobblestoned streets and one of the many shopping centres such as Auchan or Porte di Catania. At the end of the day transfer to our 4* hotel Grand Hotel Villa Itria (or similar) for check-in and dinner*.
Saturday | Breakfast followed by a full day excursion. Transfer to the famous gorges and beautiful botanical gardens at the Gole dell’ Alcantara (entrance extra) which are the main naturalistic and tourist attraction of the Alcantara Valley. We then visit Mount Etna, one of Sicily’s natural beauty landmarks and Europe’s highest active volcano. We view the volcano craters, the volcanic ash landscape and admire the spectacular scenery spreading far over the Calabria coast. We then visit the mountain village of Zafferana where we sit-in on a honey tasting demonstration and sample the different types of local honey. Dinner* will be taken at the hotel.
sunday | Breakfast and check-out. Today we visit Savoca, one of the most beautiful villages in Sicily. Savoca has plenty of charms of its own, but the main attraction is the village’s connection with Francis Ford Coppola’s film ‘The Godfather’. Scenes for this movie were shot at Bar Vitelli, on the village’s little square. This will be followed by a visit to the charming hillside town of Taormina with its many elegant buildings and shops. Our private coach will then take us to the airport for our flight back to Malta which departs Catania at 11.25pm, landing at 00.05am.
