Explore Norwegian Fjords

Norway’s fjords are so remarkably stunning that several have been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List itself for their “outstanding universal value.” It’s a fitting recognition for a country that gave the world the word fjords and has some of the most dramatic examples of them, with cliffs rising to peaks more than 500m above sea level. With their shores covered by dense forests and marked by waterfalls plunging into the sea, these famous sites are truly breathtaking. The fjords are home not just to natural beauty, but manmade wonders as well. This was the land of Vikings with their long ships, and the region’s villages and towns live alongside the traces of Viking settlements. Their wooden stave churches, both monumental and elegant, also speak to that legacy. Cafés selling cinnamon buns and dairy farms offering tastes of their fresh cheeses provide perfect respites after a ride, hike, or even just a stroll along a fjord. Norway’s fjords may be the most famous sights in this part of northern Europe, but they are just one of many reasons to travel here.

Ports of Call

Southampton  The south of England boasts a dramatic coastline that encloses some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. The landscape of hills and heaths, downs and forests, valleys and dales, is without rival. Southampton serves as your gateway to the countryside – and to a wide variety of historic sites, national landmarks, a charming old tow

n and shopping!

HAUGESUND This quaint town perched on the North Sea boasts dual personalities. While renowned as the site where Viking king Harald Hårfagre united Norway as a kingdom in the 9th century, it’s also one of the country’s most popular destinations for the annual Sildajazz Festival and Norwegian Film Festival. Add in a thriving town center with hundreds of shops and cultural diversions to jaw-dropping scenery and thrilling excursions, your stay in Haugesund promises to be an enthralling experience you won’t soon forget.

SKJOLDEN – SOGNEFJORD Welcome to the heart of the Norwegian Fjords. Skjolden is the innermost cruiseport of Norway, located at the head of the longest navigable fjord in the world – Sognefjorden. The approach is via the picturesque Lusterfjord, close to Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on the European mainland and ends at the foot of the highest mountains in Norway – the Jotunheimen National Park. The fjord is surrounded by several of Norway’s major attractions – accessible on short transits!

Olden is increasingly becoming a customary stop on a Norwegian fjords cruise. Often referred to as the gateway to Norway’s glaciers, Olden – located at the mouth of the Oldeelva river on the southern end of the 106km Nordfjorden – boasts its own spectacular surrounding landscape, dotted with valleys, waterfalls and mountains. The gateway to the glaciers, Olden is the perfect stopover on a Norwegian fjords cruise, home to some spectacular natural wonders, including Jostedalsbreen National Park, Mount Hoven and Lake Lovatnet. Adventure-seekers will love Olden, which offers fantastic cycling, kayaking, fishing and climbing.

Stavanger is a remarkable city in southwestern Norway. The energy capital is not only Norway’s fourth largest city. It is also one of the oldest. On its list of attractions is Old Stavanger, a pedestrian area boasting almost 200 wooden houses. The Stavanger Cathedral is the city’s most iconic landmark. The area around Stavanger offers varied, wild and iconic nature experiences. Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock), one of Norway’s most famous attractions, is located only an hour from the city centre. Of course the Lysefjord, which is Norway’s southernmost fjord, can also be explored from a boat. In fact, the fjord is so close to Stavanger that you can reach it from downtown in less than an hour by boat. The 42 km (2600 mi) waterway winds through mountains and rock formations.

UK ETA – required

Maltese travelers now need a permit to enter the United Kingdom. This permit, known as an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), will be required for citizens of all European Union countries from April 2 onwards. The ETA, which costs approx €20, is obtained through an online application and remains valid for two years. Without it, passengers will not be allowed to board a flight to any UK airport. Eligible visitors should apply for their ETA through the UK ETA app, which is quick and simple to use and enables most applicants to receive a decision within hours. ( we will assist if required). https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta
