Friday 12 September | Meet the tour leader at 0500hrs at the Malta International Airport to check-in for our KM Malta Airlines flight to Rome, departing at 0700hrs After arrival, our private coach shall take us to Orvieto, a wonderful ancient Umbrian city and its world-famous Duomo. After enough free time we drive on to the Tuscan city of Montecatini Terme via some of the most scenic routes in Italy. After room allocation in our 4-star hotel, enjoy a walk through the centre of town that was built around its mineral water springs followed by overnight.
Saturday 13 September | After breakfast, we offer you the possibility to join our optional excursion visiting the northern Tuscan towns of Pisa and Lucca. We shall first visit the beautiful old city of Lucca. Hidden behind imposing Renaissance walls one finds the Cathedral with its exquisite façade and other attractive buildings. After some free time, our coach shall then take us on to the city of Pisa famous for its iconic Leaning Tower. But the tower is only one of a trio of works of art and architecture in the city’s Piazza dei Miracoli, as one also finds the Duomo and the Baptistry. Return to our hotel in the late afternoon followed by dinner (optional) and overnight.
Sunday 14 September | Today we offer you an optional day excursion visiting Rapallo and Portofino, located on the wonderful Ligurian Coast. We shall visit Rapallo, a famous town with its striking landmarks – the large marina and the castle, stuck out at the end of a small causeway. We then shall take a boat (included) to Portofino is a popular resort, especially for the world’s wealthy and in fact many luxurious yachts constantly dot the horizon of this lovely port. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy the rest of the evening in Montecatini.
Monday 15 September | After breakfast, join the tour leader for an optional excursion as we visit the central Tuscan tows of Siena and San Gimignano. After driving through the wonderful Tuscany countryside, we shall arrive at one of Italy’s most enchanting cities – Siena, with its medieval centre bristling with majestic buildings. We shall then drive on through rolling Tuscan countryside to the famous hilltop walled town of San Gimignano, famous for its 14 medieval towers. Enjoy some free time exploring the heart of the town before we return to our hotel.
Tuesday 16 September | Today, after breakfast, we offer you an optional day excursion as we visit the beautiful and popular Cinque Terre, a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. We shall have the opportunity to visit three villages combining boat and train rides (boat & train extra – circa €68 pp & weather permitting).
Wednesday 17September | After breakfast join our optional excursion to beautiful Bologna, also known as the ‘red city’ mainly due to the colour of many of its buildings. After we arrive in the city, which is also the regional capital of Emilia Romagna, we shall walk to the heart of the city. After enough free time we shall drive back to our hotel and you may wish to enjoy exploring the centre of Montecatini including the Parco delle Terme di Montecatini (entr. extra).
Thursday 18 September | Today we offer an optional day excursion visiting what is considered to be one of world’s greatest artistic cities – Florence, the capital of Tuscany and the cradle of the Renaissance and which boasts one of the oldest historic centres and some of the most famous museums in the world, as well as one of the most iconic and distinctive landscapes as far as the eye can see. We shall have enough time to wander through this incredible city before we return to Montecatini Terme in the early evening.
Friday 19 September | After breakfast and room check-out we shall head for the pretty Tuscan village of San Quirico D’Orcia, located atop of a hill enjoying wonderful Tuscan scenery! After some free time, we shall continue our drive towards Rome airport in time to check in for our return flight departing at 2100hrs, before arriving in Malta at 2230hrs.
